Cuba's gay community celebrated unprecedented openness -- and high-ranking political alliances -- with a government-backed campaign against homophobia. The meeting Saturday at a convention center in Havana's Vedado district may have been the largest gathering of openly gay activists ever on the communist-run island.

you know what's sad? Cuba is going to beat out America on gay rights. We've prided ourselves on being the forefront of civil rights for decades. And now? We're going to be beaten out by a country we've traditionally called "dirty commies" and compared to Stalin, Hitler and Saddam
