These folks are really scraping the bottom of the barrel with this one.....
How can they claim 'religious persecution' and turn around and scream for censorship of other's ideas? Hypocracy is too tame a word.
My other real question is, if the boys were so traumatised, why did they even look at the book to begin with? Obviously the father would prefer his sons to remain ignorant of the world around them.....It seems to be the curse of the Religious Right...ignorant people being more easily controlled.
Lastly, one does have to wonder if this father's rant extends to the heterosexual, JOY OF SEX, Playboy or other similar publications.....Without more information, who knows but my guess would be NOT!

Would this father have removed the Kama Sutra? The Sutras according to Vedic traditions are holy books that tell Hindus how to live a prosperous life. They provide the wisdom and insight of the Hindu people. It discusses their culture and traditions. This particular Sutra is dedicated to sexuality (others include tomes on math, science, literature, the Hindu Gods, even housekeeping). If he had demanded the removal of the Kama Sutra, which is rather graphic in its descriptions and pictures, could Hindus claim their freedom of religion was being violated?

What a disgusting display of bigotry. I have to give kudos to the library for standing up to this idiot. I love that they are planning to return the book to the shelves if they can't find another similar and less offensive book.
Let them sue. No judge will allow this blatant abuse of the system.
And by the way, I am sure that the $20,000 will help erase the images of two women making love from his kids heads. If they were that traumatized, I wonder if they have ever seen MTV or a rap video?

So... If they have to replace this volume with one that is 'less offensive,' does that mean that there is only one book on lesbians in the entire library? And they just happened to stumble upon it? Yeah, ok then.... The real shocker is that in a library, there was only one book on this subject....

Under what rock have these kids been living?
" '[They were] greatly disturbed' said Earl Adams his letter to the city. '[We had] many sleepless nights in our house.' "
Change disturbed to excited...can you spell masturbation?

Censorship of the printed word should not be allowed. These kids knew they should not be reading this book. I hate it when narrow minded people try to push their beliefs or morals on other people. This was a library and it is supposed to have books on many different subjects and matter. This man does not have the right to tell me what I can or cannot read. He should pay the library $20,000 for being so stupid

Can I make $20,000 as well, because I'm disturbed and offended that these people are disturbed and offended?

oh give me a break !!! At 14 & 16 years of age these kids were 'traumatized' ?!?!? Right ! Uh, huh...$20,000 of trauma. If they win any money on this bogus claim...I'll go find a book in the library and get traumatized too !
I think they saw the word "sex" in the title and got all, er, excited. I think what traumatized them is that the book didn't live up to their expectations of talking about and illustrating male/female sex...that's why they are up at night !! Sheeesh.

The legal systemn started this manure when it first allowed 'pain and suffering' into the legal lexicon! Get rid of it and we can save a lot of time and money.
This is a bogus claim!

"... the 14-year-old was looking for material on military academies."
Don't you just hate it when your kid is dutifully preparing for a future career involving killing as many human beings as possible only to be sidetracked by "traumatizing" images of girl on girl action? Oh the horror, the horror!

I thought guys love lesbians. "traumatized" is a strong word for looking at lesbian books. The kids could read at twelve or fourteen and should know by the cover that there are no military acadamies in that book. They are probably up all night with a bottle of Jergens. We all know this is a bogus claim, but this is in Arkansas, one of the bible belt states. They love to mix politics with religion.

This happened in Arkansas? The presumption is the kids could read. As for the lesbian sex scenes, maybe they are gay kids and daddy could not deal with it. Maybe therein lies the trauma.

Interesting set of values this good Christian father is teaching his boys: It's admirable to want information on military academies. Learn how to kill people all over the world! But stay away from that immoral stuff that has anything to do with two people expressing love for each other.

A 14 and 16 year old boys being traumatized by a lesbian book???
yeah right!!!! maybe if they were home schooled, no TV, no music by homophobic, religious nut case parents. Surprised they aren't asking for 10k more for the father being traumatized too!!! After you're done reading that book, Son, let me take a look at it. I wonder how long they had it checked out? or did they just 'find' it?
Is there a Christian section in libraries? if so maybe those who are so offended by reality, could just stay in those 'safe' sections. My opinion is if their faith is strong, why would they worry about anything?

The sad part of this whole fiasco is that there are some juries that would award the man the money!

Nuts, I say. Books about military academies wouldn't be any where near the sex book area in a library. The kids were looking around the sex book area out of curiosity. What utter nonsense.
If they were so traumatized, they could have closed the book and walked away. Humph!
Like Edinbug, I've been traumatized by Bush/Cheney. Guess I should sue every stupid person that voted for this paid in 2004. And the Supreme Court should be sued for 2000. Wonder how much I can get?

Ah yes, the lesbian sex books are right next to the military academies books. Sex in the military?
What a flimsy crock. I am totally sick of "people like this" who think their 'way' must be the way for us all.
